Is Your Anxiety Running Your Life?  Online Anxiety Therapy in California

In our fast-paced world, it can seem like you have to be constantly moving to stay current with your job, your family, your friends, and even your hobbies.  However, if you find yourself constantly moving, it might be a good idea to note what happens if you contemplate slowing down or taking a break.  If you worry that everything will fall apart if you stop moving so fast, your anxiety may be running your life.  Anxiety can be helpful:  It can keep you moving and motivate you.  However, anxiety can also be destructive—it can cause physical illness, burnout, and stop you from enjoying your life.  So what is the balance?  Here are some questions to assess whether anxiety is playing too big a role of your life.

1)     Do you schedule or overschedule every moment of your day?

If you constantly are overscheduling your time and feel the need to be productive 24/7 it may be to avoid emotions.  Anxiety about feeling our feelings can cause us to never allow space in our schedules.

2)    Do you have trouble getting meaningful rest (aka you don’t wake up feeling rested with energy for your day?)

Ideally as an adult we should average 8 hours of sleep.  However, some of us need more and some of us need less.  A good measure of if you are getting enough sleep is if you are rested when you wake up and have enough energy to get through the day.  Unfortunately, anxiety can cause fitful sleep where even if your body is tired your mind may still be churning. . .leading to fewer hours of sleep in general.

3)    Do you worry incessantly and can’t seem to stop?

If you find you are constantly thinking the same thoughts over and over and playing out worst case scenarios in your head, anxiety may be to blame.

4)    Does a change in plans cause you a great deal of stress?

If a small change in plans always makes it difficult for you to cope that may be a sign of anxiety.

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may want to consider whether anxiety therapy would be helpful to you.   Online anxiety therapy is available if scheduling a  is a concern.  Please contact me, Lisa Manca, MA, LPCC, if you have questions about how to cope with your anxiety or how how to find an anxiety therapist in San Francisco, online, or elsewhere.
